The following Insurance Services Office (ISO) classifications take into account distances from fire stations, fire hydrants and the available firefighting water supply.
The purpose of the following information is for the determination of public protection classifications, which are used to develop property insurance calculations. This survey was not conducted for property-loss prevention or life-safety purposes, and no life-safety or property-loss prevention recommendations will be made. The private and public protection at properties with larger fire flows are individually evaluated and may vary from the district classification.
With few exceptions within the Poudre Fire Authority (PFA) jurisdiction, it is only necessary to determine the distance from a fire station in order to arrive at the correct public protection classification. Within the PFA response area, fire hydrants are required to be spaced at 800 feet intervals for residential neighborhoods and 600 feet in commercial areas. An ISO Class 4 meets these requirements. Those properties over five (5) road miles from a 24-hour staffed fire station or that are more than 1000 feet from a fire hydrant are an ISO Class 10.
PFA will not provide fire hydrant distances. Customers who still desire this information need to conduct their own site visit. Requests for fire station distances will be referred to the web links listed below.
- The City of Fort Collins Utilities owns and manages the fire hydrants in city limits. Contact them at 970-221-6700 (24/7). For those in areas outside city limits, please refer to your water bill.
- For those with questions about the number of apparatus that would be dispatched by emergency type, please refer to PFA's Standards of Cover report.
